Dualist With Zach Gold
We are honored to have worked with such incredible artists during our first year of Altra, their creativity has brought our invisible scent compositions to life within each of their unique visual mediums. For Dualist we had the pleasure of working again with visionary photographer Zach Gold, who’s practice takes him on a journey through analogue and digital.
Altra was created at the junction of the natural and man-made, the ancient and the futuristic – and no scent better captures this than Dualist – an exploration of the beautiful fragility of creation and the coevolutionary relationship between the man-made and natural worlds. We are deeply inspired by the hypnotic beauty of the natural realm, the infinite complexity and perfection of nature’s design and its quiet strength, how it perseveres against all odds, like a delicate green shoot of new growth bursting through seemingly impermeable concrete.
In our creative practice we sometimes create notes that seem synthetic but are from entirely natural materials, the opposite of how the perfume industry typically works – where synthetic molecules are used to mimic natural notes. This playful, Future Nature approach is reflected in our latest campaign by Zach Gold.
Zach took a composite approach, he composed a series of images using AI software that incorporated the key aspects of the scent – light and shadow, dewy aquatic notes, sunny blooms and concrete Brutalist architecture morphing into the gentle curves of the human form.
The AI images were printed, bringing them out of the digital realm and into the physical, then layered with fresh flowers; Mimosa and other Spring blooms representing the floral heart notes of the scent, before being captured by Zach’s lens. No stranger to merging the worlds of traditional photography with AI, Zach’s work embodies Dualist’s juxtaposition beautifully, romance and optimistic energy with a Future Nature edge.
