Dualist BTS: Behind the Scent
We take a look Behind the Scent for our optimistic soft green floral, Dualist, with Perfume-Creator, Beckielou Brown.
Honeyed blossoms tempered by vegetal green tones: a dewiness intrinsic with cool shaded concrete. A transformative tranquil world.
This perfume was conceived during the final weeks of lockdown in London, in the Spring and Summer of 2020. Following the time spent in isolation without exposure to the diverse variety of scents we're used to encountering in our ‘normal’ lives, then reemerging just as nature was bursting into life was an experience of freedom and overwhelming appreciation for nature, the city and human interaction that I will never forget.
The intensity of the scents emanating from nature, the sweet delicate blossoms, the fresh dewy greens, the verdant beauty of the parks in London coming to life, the scent of skin warmed in the sun, lying in the grass next to someone you've been longing to be closer to. Dualist represents the romantic tranquility and sense of optimism of this poignant time.
At the heart of this scent is Mimosa - a soft powdery bloom with delicate green nuances. This floral heart note can go in either direction: soft and sweetly gourmand with a toffee like note, or green fresh and light with a hint of cucumber, lending itself beautifully to the juxtaposition of this composition.
As the name suggests, this Future Floral has a distinct duality to it, opening with the fresh deep greens and an aquatic note reminiscent of the dewiness of cool shaded concrete of the city - a nod to the Brutalist architecture that I love, drifting into a contrasting soft warm dry-down of Mimosa and blossoms floating in off the breeze. The scent progresses into creamy blonde woods featuring Siam Wood and Amyris, then settling into a cosy white musk basenote, like sun-warmed skin with a trace of sunscreen.
Forever inspired by the reemergence into light from the dark, Dualist explores the beautiful fragility of creation and the coevolutionary relationship between the man-made and natural. A love letter to Spring and Summer in the city.
